Imphal, January 16 2015 :
Disqualification petitions filed against Langthabal A/C MLA Karam Shyam were taken up by the Manipur Legislative Assembly Speaker's tribunal today.
Karam Shyam is national general secretary of Lok Janashakti Party (LJP) and a member of the Parliamentary board.
K Saratchandra Sharma (case no 14), N Momon Meitei (case no 15) and Kh Vimal Singh (case no 16) filed disqualification petitions to the Assembly Speaker against the lone LJP MLA of the State.
Admission hearing of the three cases was conducted today but the judgement was reserved.
Briefing media persons after the hearing, Karam Shyam's counsel Advocate Khaidem Mani said that the petitioners were troubling themselves for wrong reasons.
Advocate Mani was assisted by Advocate Sanoujam Shyamachoron.
LJP leader Ram Vilas Paswan is presently Food Processing Minister of the incumbent of BJP-led NDA Government.
On the other hand, LJP MLA Karam Shyam has been supporting the Congress Government in the State and he campaigned for the Congress candidate in the 16th Lok Sabha election.
Citing the contradictory positions of Ram Vilas Paswan and Karam Shyam, the petitioners sought disqualification under the 10th Schedule of the Indian Constitution.
However, MLA K Shyam has not resigned from his party nor the party's leadership has taken up any action against him.
During UPA-II, CPI and other left parties sat on the Opposition bench at the Centre but CPI MLAs of Manipur formed alliance with Congress party and formed SPF Government, Mani said.
He put forth the same argument during the sentence hearing at the tribunal's Court room.
He further prayed the tribunal to direct the petitioners to come up with a valid explanation for filing the disqualification case.
