Following the outbreak of rabies in Churachandpur district which has even claimed human lives, monitoring cells have been opened in all districts for effective coordination in tackling the menace.
Health Services Director Dr O Ibomcha said that monitoring cells have been opened in all districts and the cells have started gathering information apart from initiating all possible counter measures.
New dog bite reports are coming from Churachandpur district even as one person has died after he was bitten by a dog in Thoubal district, Dr Ibomcha said.
In view of the alarming situation unfolding in Churachandpur district, 170 doses of anti-rabies were sent there today.
Moreover, 88 people who have been bitten by dogs have been administered anti-rabies vaccines today.
Meanwhile anti-rabies vaccines have been stocked in all district headquarters.
There were four new cases of dog bites in Churachandpur district today.
As mass vaccination programme of dogs has been launched in Churachandpur district, the dog bite cases and the resultant rabies are expected to come in the coming days, the Director confided.
The situation aggravated to such an alarming level as dog bite victims went to local medicine men (Maiba) instead of doctors and kept quiet rather than reporting the matter to the relevant Government authorities.
The department has sent orders for purchasing 1000 anti-rabies vaccines as a matter of urgency.
Meanwhile our Churachandpur correspondent reported that there were six cases of dog bites today too even as 198 dogs were vaccinated.
