A disqualification case filed by three individuals against MLA of Langthabal Constituency, Karam Shyam who is the lone candidature of Lok Janshakti Party in the State has been kept in abeyance by Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly, Th Lokeshwar on Friday.
The disqualification case against the MLA was filed by three petitioners namely K Saratchandra Sharma; N Momon Meitei and Kh Bimol Singh with Salam Rupachandra as their counsel at the Tribunal Court of the State Assembly.
During the hearing of the case, the counsel of the petitioners alleged that MLA Karam Shyam who is the Member of Parliamentary Board also holds the post of National General Secretary of Lok Janshakti Party which is unethical.
Ram Vilas Paswan, national president of Lok Janshakti Party is holding the portfolio of Food Minister.
The party is in alliance with National Democratic Party (NDA) at the centre.
Ironically, MLA Karam Shyam supported Dr Th Meinya, who contested in the last parliamentary election on the ticket of Indian National Congress (INC).
By doing so, the MLA has proved that he had left his original party and, therefore, he should be disqualified for his unethical conduct under 10th Schedule, the counsel pointed out.
Dismissing the charges leveled against the MLA, Khaidem Mani, counsel of the respondent, countered that the disqualification case against his client is fictitious so it should not be admitted in the court.
He contended that the MLA has not left the party as claimed by the petitioners while adding that there has been not any instance where the party has taken up action against the MLA for any misconduct.
After hearing arguments from both sides, the disqualification case was kept reserved by the Speaker.
