Imphal, February 11 2019:
Seasoned politician, Okram Joy, has demanded the State Government and the State police not to use strong force and harsh actions to control the agitating protesters and womenfolk of Khwairamband Ima Keithel who are staging protest demonstrations against the Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016.He made the statement during a sit in protest organised in front of the main gate of Congress Bhawan today, which was organised by MPCC.
Speaking to media persons on the sideline of the sit in protest, O Joy strongly condemned the use of force by the Government and the police against the protesting women folk of Ima Keithel.
He also expressed solidarity with the people injured and affected by the harsh actions of the authority.
Joy continued that leaders of MPCC are currently camped at Delhi to make sure that the CAB does not get passed in the Rajya Sabha and added that the Congress leaders are making necessary preparations to stage a dharna at Delhi tomorrow.
He also said that there is high suspicion that the Bill might get passed inspite of the strong protest from the people or it might get passed as an Ordinance.
On the other hand, Joy alleged that the Chief Minister of the State seems to have little knowledge about the full impact of the Bill.
Demanding the Chief Minister to make claims and assurances after properly analysing the facts and figures, the seasoned politician expressed desire for the State Government to properly discuss the pros and cons of the Bill with Constitutional experts.
