Shut down paralyses normal life

Imphal, February 11 2019:
The 36 hours Statewide total shutdown which is being imposed by People' s Alliance Manipur (PAM) since 5 am today and the mass civil movement spearheaded by the Manipur People Against CAB 2016 (MANPAC) paralysed normal life in the State today.
A large number of people including womenfolk turned out on the streets and staged sit-ins by blocking one half of the road at many places during the total shutdown.
They also prevented vehicular movement on roads, except persons related with essential services, religious functions and press.
All the shops and business establishments of Khwairamband Keithel, and other markets in and around Imphal city were closed.
There was no vehicular movement on the roads, including all forms of inter-State and inter-district vehicles.
However, vehicles related with essential services, religious functions and press were allowed free movement.
Routine flight service was not affected.
Banks, educational institutions and offices, both Government and private remained shut.
Along the Imphal-Moreh Highway, sit-in protest was organized at Kakwa Naorem Leikai, near Kakwa Bazar, Singjamei Waikhom Leikai, Singjamei Mayeng Leikai, Yumnam Leikai among other places.
Youth who turned out on the streets also burnt tyres and other materials in the middle of roads at Kakwa and Uripok Sorbon Thingel.
However, police arrived at the scene and cleared away the burning materials.
Womenfolk of Singjamei Wangma Bamon Leikai and Singjamei Kshetri Leikai also blocked Singjamei Bridge.
Sit-in-protests were also staged at Kongba Road, Irilbung, Wangkhei Ayang Palli, Langthabal, Keishamthong, Khurai, Lilong Chajing, Leishangkhong Kabui Khul, Lamphel Sana Keithel, RIMS Road, Kongpal Kongkham Leikai, Samurou, Sawombung, Khoupum and many other places.
