Imphal, February 11 2019:
Taking strong exception to the State Government's failure to provide any type of assistance to Mission Blind School, Heikakpokpi even after almost one year of the State Cabinet's decision to upgrade the school as a Government Aided School, students of the school blocked Imphal-Moreh highway at Heikakpokpi, Chandel district today.
A large number of students of the school blocked the highway by putting benches across it.
One Thiyam Dilip who was among the protesters said that the school has not been getting any assistance from any quarter since the State Government decided to adopt it as a Government Aided School.
Earlier, the school received assistance from different quarters including the military, he said.
Now, the teachers have not been getting salaries, text books are not available and not a single grain of rice has been received from the Government, Dilip said.
Even though paper works necessary for granting Government assistance to the school have been cleared by the Chief Minister, the file is being held back by the Principal Secretary (Finance), he alleged.
