12th Feb: MANPAC declares doomsday

Imphal, February 11 2019: While declaring February 12, 2019 as the 'North East Peoples Doomsday in India', MANPAC has called upon all the people of the State to come out on the streets and carry out different modes of protest against CAB 2016 tomorrow.

Speaking to media persons at the Checkon office of CCSK this evening, MANPAC convenor Yumnamcha Dilipkumar said that as announced earlier no vehicular movement would be allowed tomorrow except for religious functions, medical service, press and other essential services.

He also appealed to all the people to come out on the streets and protest against the CAB 2016 in one voice.

Dilipkumar appealed to all protesters to use black flags/banners apart from hoisting black flags in every household.

He said they are still apprehensive that the CAB 2016 will be tabled either tomorrow or day after in one form or another.

The convenor urged the Congress party not to walk out from the Rajya Sabha as they did on January 8 in the Lok Sabha when the Bill is tabled in the Upper House.

Urging the Congress party to fight the Bill in a befitting manner in the Rajya Sabha, Dilipkumar warned that MANPAC would adopt a strong resolution against Congress party if they choose to walk out from the Rajya Sabha too.

Declaring that tomorrow is a doomsday for all the people of the North East, he called upon all the people, CSOs and stake holders to fight the Bill collectively.

The MANPAC convenor also rejected the advertisement published by the N Biren Government in the media today about the population of Manipur.

He alleged that the population figures of Meitei, tribes, Meitei Pangal and others highlighted in the advertisement are all incorrect and fabricated.

He appealed to the masses not to accept the figures and data given in the advertisement.

Citing data from 'Influx of Migrants in Manipur' published by the UCM based on the census report of 2011, Dilipkumar said that non-local people now constitute over one-third of the total population of Manipur.

He also condemned the search carried out by police at the residence of MANPAC co-convenor Phundreimayum Abdullah Pathan yesterday with the intention to put him behind bars.

Such old tactics would not deter MANPAC from going ahead with the people's movement.

The Government should stop all such activities, he demanded.
