Women vendors intensify protest

Condemning the attempt to pass the Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016 in the Rajya Sabha, women vendors of Khwairamband Ima Keithel intensified their protest by completely shutting down the Keithel and protested by holding black flags and wearing black badges today.
Speaking to media persons, one of the protesting women vendors said that the people of the State and the North East region are extremely disappointed with the attempt by the BJP led NDA Government in the Centre to try and pass the CAB in the Rajya Sabha, despite an uproar in the region since the Bill was passed by the Lok Sabha on January 8.If the Bill is passed and turned into an Act, a huge backlash is sure to come, she warned and demanded the Central Government to act per the sentiments of the people.
She further condemned the high handedness of the police against the women vendors of Khwairamband Keithel yesterday.
She explained that the CAB will also affect the police personnel of the State, not just the people and demanded the State Government to heed the voice of the people as the Government was elected by the people.
On the other hand, Kongpal Kongkham Leikai Awang Meira Lup Lai Hiden organised a road protest today.
Speaking on the sideline of the protest, one of the protesters warned against any attempt to pass the CAB in the Rajya Sabha tomorrow and added that the Meira Paibis will fully support every movement of the people.
Meira Paibis of Keishamthong Top Leirak, Keishamthong Hodam Leirak and the areas around Leishangkhong Kabui Khul, also staged similar sit in protest demonstrations against CAB today.
