Ukhrul, February 11 2019:
The Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (TKS) has launched a non-co-operation movement against the State Education Department and socially boycotted the Education Minister Thokchom Radheshyam with immediate effect.
According to a statement issued by the education secretary of TKS, Joyson Keishing, a meeting was held today to discuss the prevailing education system at Ukhrul and Kamjong districts and during the meeting the students resolved to socially boycott the Education Minister for his failure to look into the welfare of the student community at large and to launch a non co-operation movement against the State Education Department for their indifference towards the plight of the students.
The student body further decided to intensify their movement by closing all the Government schools in Ukhrul and Kamjong districts.
Alleging that Radheshyam has betrayed the hill people, the student body explained that his assurance on the august floor of the House during the winter session that the RMSA/SSA teachers transferred on utilisation posting would be reinstated in their respective schools before the academic session begins has turned out to be a mere lip promise.
The Education Minister had also stated that RMSA/SSA is a Central sponsored project and hence teachers cannot be diverted or transferred to other schools, said TKS.
According to TKS, there are over 350 schools in Ukhrul and Kamjong district.
Almost all the schools are facing shortage of teachers.
Giving an example TKS said that in Chatric Government High School there are only four teachers.
The programme "Go to Village" has not changed anything on the ground, it said and alleged that it is a mockery of the rural people.
According to the TKS, the student community will sever all relationship with Education Minister Radheshyam Thokchom, students will not invite the Minister for any official events during the non co-operation movement and social boycott.
TKS also urged the Education Minister to look into the welfare and the demand to provide sufficient teachers in all schools of Ukhrul and Kamjong district.
