Imphal, January 10 2011:
Candidates for Sub-Inspector of Police and Jemadar who were reportedly denied permission to appear in the written test examination held on January 2 at 2nd Bn Manipur Rifles complex have appealed to the Chief Minister to give them a second chance.
According to a memorandum signed by 26 candidates, the written test was earlier scheduled for December 31 last at the same venue.
Written test examination for the post of Assistant Sub-Inspector of Police which was supposed to be held at 10.30 am was belatedly held at 2 pm of the same day.
But written test examination for SI/Jemadar was postponed to January 2 at the eleventh hour.
Even as the applicants were asked to report at 7 am of January 2 for the written test examination, no specific timing for the same examination was notified.
Whereas no specific timing for the postponed examination was announced in the AIR Imphal news bulletin during the intervening days, while all the Imphal based newspapers had suspended publications during these days.
As such, the candidates personally went to the venue of examination at 2nd Bn MR complex on January 2 .
Notwithstanding the fact the number of candidates was quite large, each and every candidate was thoroughly checked and verified by security guards before allowing them to enter the examination venue.
The process consumed a lot of time.
To the utter surprise of all the candidates who were waiting their turn for verification, the security guard/sentry suddenly closed the entrance gate announcing that no more candidate would be allowed to enter the examination hall.
On further enquiry, the sentry at the entrance gate replied that they were instructed to do so by the Director General of Police, Manipur.
In the evening of the same day, the left out candidates approached the Chief Minister requesting for an alternative arrangement so that they can appear in the written test examination.
Another similar application was submitted to the DGP but no positive action has been forthcoming till date.
Informing that more than 200 candidates were debarred from appearing the written test examination for no fault of theirs because of closure of the entrance gate at 10.10 am even though the exam started at 10.30 am, the spurned candidates appealed to the Chief Minister to make an alternative arrangement so that they can appear the written test examination.
Copies of the same memorandum have also been submitted to the Chief Secretary, the DGP and the IGP (Chairman, DPC for appointment of ASI/SI/Jemadar of Manipur Police Department) .
