Training programme on organic farming begins

Imphal, January 10 2011:
A three-day training programme on organic farming organized by the Directorate of Extension Education commenced today at the Conference Hall of College of Agriculture, Central Agriculture University.
Dr SN Suri, Vice Chancellor, Central Agriculture University, graced the inaugural function as chief guest.
Dr N Iboton, Dean CAU, Dr Gaj Raj Director of Instruction and Dr M Mohinikumar, Director of Research also attended the function as guests of honour.
Dr S Premjit, Director Extension Education, CAU presided over the function.
Altogether 34 specialists in different subjects are participating in the training programme.
Resource persons from other states will deliver speeches on different topics.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr SN Suri said that organic farming is one of many various agricultural methods in use.
Subject matter specialists need to be consulted frequently if farmers of the state wish to adopt organic farming methods.
He said, this why it is very important to train specialists with the latest information about the method.
He said that farmers of NE region are the highest in adopting organic farming rather than using chemical fertilizers.
