Samurou erupts in protest

A 40 year old man identified as Nongmeikappam Shyam (40) of Oinam Sawombung was shot dead by some unidentified gunmen at Samurou Makha Leikai Litan Makhong under Wangoi police station at about 7.30 last night.
Bullet marks could be observed on the head and abdomen of the deceased.
Enraged over the alleged arbitrary killing of Shyam, who was a Chowkidar at Oinam Sawombung Government High School, the local Meira Paibis took out a protest rally at Oinam along Mayai Lambi today.
The rallyists also shouted various slogans such as, "What was the fault of Shyam", "We condemn killing civilians", "Book the murderers" etc.
After the protest rally taken out from Oinam to Samurou, the Meira Paibis staged a protest sitting at Oinam Lamkhai.
On the other hand, a joint action committee christened the JAC Against the
Killing of Shyam has also been constituted.
JAC secretary Dina Oinam said that they will submit a memorandum to the Chief Minister urging to identify the UG outfit, if any underground organisation, is behind the killing.
Until and unless the murderers are booked, the corpse of Shyam will not be claimed and protest agitation will continue, he maintained.
Even as the exact circumstances under which Shyam was shot dead could not be confirmed yet, relatives hinted that Shyam could have been shot dead after he was out from his own house yesterday.
They claimed that three unidentified persons were seen taking Shyam on the Imphal Barrage road in the North of Shyam's home at about 7.30 pm yesterday.
The relatives also conveyed strong suspicion that Shyam might have been shot dead by the three unidentified persons.
Asserting that her son was a simple chowkidar, the bereaved mother denounced the merciless killing of her son without giving any reason or warning.
She also demanded an explicit explanation for the murder of her son at the earliest.
With the family members and the JAC refusing to claim the corpse, it is still lying at the morgue of RIMS.
A late report informed that the JAC has submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister's Secretary.
Moreover, the JAC is also meeting the Chief Minister on the matter tomorrow, said sources from the JAC.
