The Zingsho Mapithel Long and Zingsho Mapithel Katamnao Long voicing strong resentment against the assertion of Veterinary and
Animal Husbandry Department authorities that there is no case of death of buffaloes in Mapithel area of Ukhrul district, has urged that the department instead chalk out plans to prevent further loss of cattle lives.
Meanwhile, a team of the Department is informed to have left for Mapithel area this evening to reconfirm and assess the situation.
On the other hand, sticking to the report that unknown cattle disease in Mapithel area had so far killed 10 buffaloes in Shingta, nine in Marou and two in Lungphu village, the bodies insisted that on January 23 an inspection team of Veterinary Department only enquired about the situation at human settlement areas of the three affected villages but did not visit sites where the buffaloes lay dead.
describing as unfortunate and uncalled for the Department officials' assertion that no such cattle death case took place in Mapithel area, ZML and ZMKL in a joint statement urged the Department authorities to direct its personnel to work with efficiency and seriousness and take appropriate measures without delay to save the surviving buffaloes.
The bodies also recalled of briefing mediapersons and functionaries of NIPCO on the sideline of the ZMKL conference cum sports meet on January 21 regarding losses suffered by villagers of Mapithel area owing to demises of their livestock (buffaloes).
Highlighting that villagers of the specified area are reeling under the fear of possible recurrence of widespread cattle casualties, the organisations called upon the Department officials to depute personnel and provide vaccination/treatment to check recurrence of such disease.
