Imphal, August 01 2012:
The Meetei Eyek edition of Hijam Guno's famous novel 'Laman' was released during a function at Manipur Press Club here yesterday.
Significantly, Hijam Guno himself translated his novel from original written in Bengali script to Meetei Eyek while he was still alive.
The book releasing function was attended by Joint Director of Art and Culture, Government of Manipur Sapam Bheigya as Chief Guest, Social Activist Dr Dhanabir Laishram as President and Editor of Hueiyen Lanpao (Meetei Eyek edition) M Shivadutta Luwang as Guest of Honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Sapam Bheigya forecasted that 20 years from now, no Manipuri books written in Bengali script would be seen in the markets of Manipur.
With the passage of time, Meetei Mayek is gaining popularity today.
Shivadutta Luwang observed that it is like blind if one is not able to read and understand the words written in their own script.
It is because of the ignorance that one's own customs and traditions begin to fade away slowly.
Until and unless the education system in the state is not changed, no revolution can be brought in the society, he added.
