Last rites of BJP chief Prof S Tikendra performed

Imphal, May 14 2021:
The last rites of BJP Manipur Pradesh president Professor S Tikendra, who succumbed to Covid-19 related complications on Thursday, were performed with chief minister N Biren attending the funeral on Friday.
A special team of Imphal Municipal Council transported the lifeless body of S Tikendra from Shija hospitals to his birthplace at Nambol Sabal Leikai where the body was kept in the local community hall for his well-wishers to pay their last respect with strict adherence to SOP on Friday morning.
Chief Minister Biren along with a team of BJP Manipur Pradesh led by its president in-charge Dr U Deben offered floral tributes and later the last rites of the deceased were performed at the local crematorium.
Briefly speaking on the occasion, N Biren praised Tikendra as a selfless leader who worked tirelessly for strengthening the party.
His initiatives and efforts for the welfare of the public will always be remembered, he added.
Meanwhile, Manipur Legislative Assembly speaker Y Khemchand has condoled the demise of Prof S Tikendra and noted that the dead of Tikendra is a huge loss for the party.
BJP Tamenglong district president M Danial also condoled the demise of Prof Tikendra and prayed for his soul to rest in peace.
Naga People's Front (NPF) has expressed deep condolences over the untimely demise of Prof Tikendra.
NPF Manipur president Awangbow Newmai remembered Tikendra as a devoted party leader who understood and respects coalition partners in the present government.
On the other hand, president of ST Morcha BJP Manipur Pradesh Lanjaigai Kamei, while condoling the demise of the BJP leader, said "Tiken was a man of principle, integrity and high moral values.
His humanism transcends the difference or plurality of different sections of the people of Manipur".
BJP Nambol Mandal, BJP Manipur Pradesh State Council member Ihounaojam Basanta, BJP Nambol Mandal president Salam Brajamani also mourned the demise of Prof Tikendra during a condolence meeting held at the Nambol mandal office.
Meanwhile, Heirok MLA Th Radheshyam also conveyed his deep condolences over the demise of Tikendra during condolence service held at Heirok BJP office.
He noted the manifold contribution of Prof Tikendra in strengthening the party in the state.
Praising the late leader, he said that Tikendra was a staunch follow of the ideology of Mahatma Gandhi's 'Simple living high thinking'.
Floral tributes were paid as a mark of respect and the gathering observed a two-minute silence led by the local MLA.
