Imphal, May 14 2021:
While noting that the battle against COVID-19 pandemic is getting harder owing to various hurdles, AMUCO former president Ph Deban expressed serious concern over reports that authorities in the healthcare facilities are reluctant to admit new patients with oxygen level below 94.Deban is currently serving as a volunteer at Community Home Isolation Centre for Langthabal AC opened at Standard Robarth Higher Secondary School, Canchipur.
In a message uploaded on social media on Friday, Deban said that number of positive cases in Langthabal is increasing and the virus has claimed the lives of 5/6 people of the constituency since the spread of the second wave of the pandemic while 2/3 people are in critical condition.
"When contacted for admission of new patients, relevant authority intimated us that there would be no new admission of patients having oxygen level below 94," Deban said, adding that relevant authority also informed that hospitals are full of COVID-19 patients and there is no space for new patients to be admitted.
This means that condition of COVID-19 patients with oxygen level below 94 will worsen and a stage has come for these patients to give home treatment and wait for their fate.
Community Home Isolation Centre opened at different assembly constituencies are now without nurse, doctor and adequate oxygen, Deban said, adding that getting ambulance for transportation of new patient is not easy now and hiring private ambulance too take much time.
The emerging situation indicates that new patients have to manage themselves, Deban said.
Deban also called upon social workers of the constituency and those committed to fighting the pandemic to join hands in fighting the pandemic collectively.
