State records another spike of 726 new cases; 16 die

The second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic broke yet another undesired record on Friday with 726 new cases detected and 16 deaths in the state.
The 726 new cases were detected out of 3229 samples tested in the last 24 hours, thus showing a single day positivity rate of 22.48 per cent.
The average positivity rate for the month of May stands at 16.45 per cent, which exceeded the monthly average positivity rate recorded during the peak period of the first wave by around 5 per cent.
With Friday's addition, the active caseload has swelled to 5898 of which 3552 are recuperating in home isolation and the remaining 2346 cases (39.78 per cent) undergoing treatment in different healthcare facilities including Covid Care Centres.
Since May 1, the state has recorded 6736 new cases and 147 fatalities of which 3989 new cases and 103 fatalities were reported in the last seven days.
The state's previous highest single day infection of 666 cases was recorded on May 11.According to official reports, the 726 new cases included 716 civilians (375 male & 341 female) and 10 personnel of Central Armed Police Force (CAPF).
Their samples were tested at JNIMS (136), RIMS (4), Imphal East (10), Imphal West (72), Maipakpi (6), Mother's Care (4), CMC (2), Hillside (1), SWISS (5), Gilead Health Care Centre (3), RD Wing (3), Raj Medicity (125), Ema Hospital (1), Advanced Hospital (1), Asian Hospital (1), Iboyaima Hospital (2), Jivan Hospital (4), Peace Hospital (3), Shija Hospital (39), Babina Diagnostics (113), Escent Diagnostics (19), Thoubal (25), Bishnupur (38), Kakching (25), Churachandpur (39), Chandel (5), Senapati (11), Tamenglong (5), Kangpokpi (2), Noney (11), Pherzawl (1), Jiribam (3) and Ukhrul (7).The positive cases from among the general population are from Imphal East (192), Imphal West (290), Thoubal (48), Bishnupur (57), Kakching (33), Ukhrul (9), Churachandpur ((49), Chandel (5), Senapati (11), Tamenglong 4), Kangpokpi (5), Noney (11) and Jiribam 2).All necessary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place.
The 16 fatalities reported on Friday were a 35-year old female (CCpur), a 53-year old male (IE), a 69-year old male (Bpr), a 35-year old male (IW), a 64-year old male (IW), an 81-year old male (IE), a 67-year old male (IW), a 46-year old male (IW), a 50-year old male (IE), a 40-year old female (IE), a 90-year old female (IW), a 56-year old female (IW), a 70year old female (IW), a 53-year old male (IW), a 65-year old male (IW), and a 68-year old female (Bpr) who died at DH Churachandpur (1), Raj Medicity (1), Shija Hospital (4), JNIMS (4) and RIMS (6) hospital respectively.
The cumulative number of deaths is 552 .
In the last 24 hours, 381 patients were discharged from CAPF (6), home isolation (291), RIMS (16), JNIMS (8), RD Wing (1), BB (17), NSU (14), RAJMED (9), SHRI (5), Bishnupur (6), Ukhrul (1), and Churachandpur (7) .
The cumulative number of positive cases has reached 38,322 (general population - 34,632 and CAPF personnel - 3,690).Number of recovered cases is 31,872 (general population - 28,363 and CAPF personnel - 3,509) and number of active cases is 5898 (general population - 5722 and CAPF personnel - 176).The recovery rate is 83.16 per cent.
In the last 24 hours, 1107 D type Oxygen Cylinders and 516 B-type Oxygen cylinders have been made available to different health institutions and health facilities in the state.
As on Thursday, 2,96,894 individuals have been administered Covid vaccines.
Meanwhile, 44 new positive cases have also cropped up during RAT conducted in Kakching district on Friday.
One case was detected at Ema Hospital, four at Jivan Hospital and 39 at government testing centre.
As per data maintained by The People's Chronicle based on IDSP and CCR reports, number of total cases in different districts are Imphal West (13,394), Imphal East (8821), Thoubal (2938), Churachandpur (2609), Kangpokpi (1317), Tamenglong (1586), Bishnupur (1991), Senapati (906), Ukhrul (921), Kakching (1397), Chandel (765), Noney (476).Tengnoupal (456), Jiribam (377), Kamjong (331) and Pherzawl (37) .
Fatality counts in different districts are Imphal West (199), Imphal East (140), Thoubal (64), Churachandpur (44), Kangpokpi (171, Tamenglong (7), Bishnupur (37), Senapati (2), Ukhrul (5), Kakching (18) .
Chandel (12), Noney (1), Tengnoupal (3), Jiribam (1), Kamjong (2), and Pherzawl (0) .
However, the figure differs with data released by CMOs of some districts, The state health authority is not willing to provide district-specific case status despite repeated request from media.
Data analysed by this daily shows that the rate of infection remains 12,350 confirmed cases per million population (based on projected population of 31,03,000 as per NCP report) against the national average of 18,253 CPM.
Test rate has improved to 2,10,679 tests per million population against the national average of 2,23,698 TPM.
Case fatality rate rose to 1.44 per cent.
In the past 24 hours, only 3229 samples were tested and the single day positivity rate was 22.48 per cent while the cumulative positivity rate further rises to 5.86 per cent.
