Imphal, July 29 2013:
Stating that the demand being made by TFO for the removal of DC Ukhrul has blown out of proportion, the Hunphun Executive Council (HEC) has observed that the method or approach of pressuring the Government for his removal has boomeranged on the public of Ukhrul district.
A press note issued by Chairman HEC said, it has already done more harm to the public rather than bringing good.
There are many democratic ways of voicing grievances other than imposing public curfew, bandhs and restraining Government employees from attending office.
It asked, "When public curfew and bandh are imposed, ultimately who suffers and who is the loser?" The students are deprived of their studies, the farmers or daily wage earners and the street vegetable vendors suffer most on whose daily earning most of us depend.
So, we do not have to repeat this method in the future if we are fighting for the public.
Similarly, restraining Government employees from attending office is doing more harm than good as more than 70% of our people depend on the income of Govt employees as we hardly have any other source of income.
So, if we continue to refrain them from attending office, the Govt is bound to apply dies-non formula and even issue EOL in which case their salary will be deducted and their service record will be spoiled which would result into their ACR, promotion and pensionary benefits greatly hampered, the note added.
It then suggested to organise dharna or peaceful rally rather than making our own people suffer out of our approach though the demand may be genuine.
"We are not for or against the DC, but as far as we know him, he has been doing wondeful work to streamline the rotting education department by pulling up proxy teachers and absentees.
He has been trying to streamline the distribution of PDS rice to different remote villages through bio-metric system fixed on the vehicle ferrying rice, sugar etc which no other DC has ever applied", the note quoted the Chairman as saying and added that similarly SSA, MGNREGA, IAY schemes etc are being channelized through his personal supervision which are praiseworthy.
The public is there to judge his doings and undoings.
It also said, whatever may be the case, the concerned authority by now should understand the sentiments of the people which have been looming for about a month and break the imbroglio in the interest of the public.
Government should not remain a silent spectator.
