Imphal, July 29 2013:
Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) is escalating its strategies against the Indian National Congress (INC) to secure both Parliamentary seats of the State in the coming Lok Sabha Election by putting up the "Merger Agreement" as one of the election agendas.
The BJP is also prepared to file a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) at the Supreme Court against non-fulfilment of important terms and conditions laid down in the Merger Agreement, which was signed between India and Manipur on March 21, 1949 and came into effect on October 15 that year.
The Party will also bring up the issue of providing jobs to the youths of Manipur, as mentioned in Article 8(3) of the Merger Agreement, in the ensuing Parliament Session scheduled to begin from October 5 .
Talking to Hueiyen Lanpao, an eminent leader of BJP Manipur Pradesh said that Manipur got merged into Indian Union under a mutual agreement.
The merger can be dissolved if one party decides to withdraw the agreement.
This issue can spark off tensions if it reaches international bodies.
The BJP feels that the Indian Government should fulfil all terms and conditions of Merger Agreement in order to avoid unnecessary tensions in the future, he noted.
The BJP leader further said that State President Thounaojam Chaoba left Imphal for Guwahati today to discuss the issue of Merger Agreement with other BJP leaders.
The State President would attend a two-day meeting of Election Management Committee (Northeast) at Guwahati from August 1 to 2 next.
BJP national leaders such as SS Aluwalia, Savakiran Rijiji and PV Acharya would also attend the meeting, he noted.
The source disclosed that the issue of Merger Agreement would be raised at the Parliament by MP Vijaya Chakrabarty from Assam.
State BJP President Chaoba has taken all documents related to the Merger Agreement to Guwahati.
Moreover, the BJP has obtained information on employment of Manipuri youths from the Ministry of Home Affairs through Right to Information Act.
However, the information from MHA sharply differed with the reality and so the BJP is planning to file a PIL at the Supreme Court, the BJP leader added.
