Grenade, IED found, disposed

Imphal, October 24 2017:
A hand grenade was found inside the campus of National Institute of Technology (NIT) at Lamphelpat, today.
According to information received from the spot, the bomb was found in a blue polythene bag hanging from one of the windows of the conference hall of Academic Block I, inside the campus .
Initially a security personnel had taken it down and thrown it away, not realising that it was a bomb .
Due to suspicion that the bag might be a bomb, police were informed .
Soon after, a team of Lamphel police station reached the spot and cordoned off the area for investigation .
The hand grenade was later picked up by a team of Manipur Police Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad .
On the other hand, unidentified suspected underground militants planted a powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED) at the residential gate of Imphal Post Office Post Assistant, Khulakpam Abdul Uddus, at Keikhu Muslim Leikai, under Porompat police station today morning .
According to reliable information, locals of Keikhu Muslim Leikai came across an unattended plastic bag in front of the residential gate of Khulakpam Abdul Uddus s/o (L) Samsuruddin at around 6.30 am .
Soon after, they informed the concerned police police regarding the presence of an unattended plastic bag suspected to contain an explosive device .
A police team rushed to the spot and cordoned off the area preventing locals and passers-by from going near the suspected IED and waited for the arrival of bomb disposal squad.
A bomb disposal squad arrived with a mounted jammer vehicle and after inspection, found a high intensity IED fitted inside the plastic bag .
The IED was picked up and later disposed off safely at a spot near Baruni hills .
Porompat police station has registered a case regarding the incident .
The locals of Keikhu Muslim Leikai also organised a sit in protest today, condemning the incident.
