Imphal, May 11 2021:
In view of the inconveniences faced by the public in buying vegetables as well as in vending/selling vegetables by growers during the ongoing curfew, the Manipur Organic Mission Agency (MOMA) is all set to begin home delivery service of vegetables from tomorrow onwards.
The initiative taken up under the advice of Chief Minister N Biren also aims to mitigate the economic losses likely to be suffered by farmers of the State whose produces may be spoiled or go waste during the pandemic.
As such, MOMA which is under the Department of Horticulture and Soil Conservation has already started collecting vegetables grown by farmers in remote villages since the last few days.
Speaking to The Sangai Express, MOMA Project Director Kh Debdutta asserted that the agency has already stored several metric tons of vegetables, including tomato, maize, cucumber and various types of beans in the cold storage after procuring them from farmers in remote areas.
He went on to convey that the same vegetables will be made available to the public at reasonable prices through home delivery service in Imphal East and Imphal West with the help of several producers' companies and outlets under MOMA from tomorrow.
Maintaining that the vegetables procured from farmers are being stored at the cold storage installed at Sanjenthong's MOMA office which has a capacity of 10 metric tons, Debdutta further conveyed that another cold storage having the capacity of 100 metric tons is also set ready for storing excess vegetables at Chajing.
He even said that plans are being put in place to utilize the cold storage of the Food Industries Corporation Limited for storing excess quantity of vegetables.
"MOMA had also successfully carried out the same initiative when the State was hit hard by the first wave of COVID-19 and many farmers had reaped its benefits, saving their economy to certain extent", he added.
Conveying that MOMA will continue to buy more produces from farmers in remote areas in the near future, Debdutta asked all those who wanted to sell their vegetable produces to the agency to communicate either through "Loumi connect mobile application" or www.momamanipur.com.
The Project Director also asked the public to dial to 8258028260, 8132094504, 8837238405, 9612167002 and 7085589616 for home delivery of vegetables.
