Re-poll urged

Contending that polling agents were found present at 11 polling stations under Heingang Assembly Constituency without the consent of the candidate in the 11th State Legislative Assembly election, Dr Gurumayum Tonsana Sharma who contested in the election from the constituency on Manipur Democratic People's Front (MDPF) ticket filed a complaint to Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) and CEO Manipur yesterday seeking conduct of re-poll in the constituency.
Addressing media persons in a press meet held at Manipur Press Club here today, Dr Tonsana clarified that he had not fielded polling agents at 45 polling stations under the constituency in the first phase of the election which was held on March 4 .
However, when the polling stations were checked, polling agents were found present at 11 polling stations, he claimed.
The candidate said that he had decided not to field his polling agents as he acknowledged the efforts of Election Commission of India (ECI) to hold the election in a free and fair manner.
"The form taken for employing polling agents in the election is still with me", he said.
He suspected that such malpractice may have been committed in other polling stations also with an attempt to win the election forcefully.
The polling stations where polling agents were found present without the knowledge of the candidate are 2/1, 2/2, 2/3, 2/6, 2/7, 2/9, 2/11, 2/16, 2/19 and 2/25, he informed .
