JAC accuses MLI officers

Imphal, April 30 2011: Alongwith constitution of a joint action committee (JAC) in connection with the dead of Sanjoy, the JAC has urged upon Chief Minister O Ibobi to suspend the 12th MLI officers involved in the case of Sanjoy's dead.

A public meeting held today at Moirang Hanuba Leirak in connection with the dead of Sanjoy decided to form a JAC.

A team of the JAC submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister this evening demanding suspension of the army officers involved in the mysterious dead of Sanjoy.

To bring to book all the accused within five days and taking N Kabita and Aheibam Purnimashi, who were reportedly involved in handing over Sanjoy to the army, into police custody until the culprits are booked are the other main demands of the JAC.

Demanding CBI enquiry into the case, the memorandum threatened that all sorts of protest movements would be launched if the culprits are not booked within five days.

Incidentally, Sanjoy was declared brought dead at RIMS yesterday afternoon after he was handed over to 12th Maratha Light Infantry by some women including Kabita, Purnimashi and his mother Sushila.

On the other hand, one officer of 12th MLI said that Sanjoy's family conveyed their desire to surrender Sanjoy through Kabita on April 27. They brought Sanjoy yesterday morning and he was kept at the MLI post attached to Patsoi police station.

After offering lunch, Sanjoy was allowed to rest in a room.

At about 1.30 pm, one soldier found Sanjoy with foamy liquids covering his nose.

Soon, he was rushed to RIMS.

But doctors there declared that he was brought dead at about 3 pm, the officer said.

To a query about the reported recovery of 40 SP capsules and four N-10 tablets and a half from Sanjoy, the officer said they did not check Sanjoy as they were only working for Sanjoy's surrender in good faith so that he could come back to the mainstream.

On the other hand, Kabita said that Sanjoy's elder brother Boboi was arrested by 12th MLI about 5/6 months back.

On the request of their mother Sushila, the 12th MLI authority was informed that Boboi was innocent though Sanjoy was an activist of an UG group.

Subsequently, Boboi was freed.

The 12th MLI authority also asked to persuade Sanjoy to surrender, Kabita said.

When the matter was taken up with Sushila, she accepted the suggestion and called back Sanjoy from Dimapur and he was handed over to 12th MLI.

All these facts were known to Sanjoy's elder brother and their father, Kabita added.
