Trucks catch fire

Imphal, April 30 2011:
Two trucks carrying wheat caught fire when live High Tension wire snapped and fell over them at Sangaiprou near FCI godown under Lamphel police station in Imphal West district at about 11 am today.
The two trucks were among the many vehicles which were parked in queue for unloading their loads at the godown when one live HT wire fell over them and slipped down touching the left tyres.
One truck with registration number NL-07A/1579 which was parked near Sangaiprou Pukhri Achouba and the next truck carrying registration number NL-05D/6959 had some portions of the tyres burnt due to the accidental fire.
In addition to three left tyres (two rear and one front) and one right front tyre, the battery of the first truck was also ravaged by the fire.
For the second truck, the left front tyre and the left rear tyre were burnt.
However, the fire was put under control before it could totally destroy the two trucks and spread to other vehicles by timely intervention of the transporters present there and the fire service.
Initially, no one could move in to douse the fire.
It was only after the Electricity Department was informed and power supply shut down that fire control exercise began.
The two trucks were transporting wheat from Dimapur and they reached Imphal on April 28 .
Later, police investigation confirmed that the HT line snapped after the pole supporting it was hit by a rice laden truck (Registration No NL-01D/1646) .
When police arrived there, the driver of the truck had fled away.
