Chandel DC and some officials accompanying him were injured in an attack by an unruly mob near Leibi village in Chandel district on Thursday, April 28, according to an official source.
Mention may be made that an official team led by Chandel DC H Deleep who went to demarcate the inter-village boundary between Leibi and Kwatha were attacked by a unruly mob of around 200 villagers of Leibi when they came back after completing the demarcation, conducted as per a court directive.
A dispute had prevailed among Kwatha and Leibi in Chandel district, when the two neighbouring villages claimed ownership rights over a large agricultural land located at the border of the two villages.
As per judgment of the Gauhati High Court, Imphal Bench, Chandel DC H Deleep accompanied by SP of the district K Radhashyam went to demarcate the boundary of the two villages on Thursday.
After completing the demarcation of the boundary without interference from the two villages the team erected boundary pillars.
But, on the way back from the site, around 200 villagers of Leibi attacked the team on their way back.
They targeted the DC, H Deleep and his officials, and snatched away important relevant documents despite maximum efforts from the security forces to control the mob.
Security escort personnel resorted to firing as the mob failed to disperse.
Apart from injuring the DC, H Deleep and officials, a rifleman of 7th MR, Thanil, escorting the official team also sustained bullet injuries at his leg.
The DC sustained an injury on his left little finger and his wrist watch was also snatched by the mob.
