Protesting suspension of four of their colleagues in connection with the killing of three tribal students State police commandos abstained from service today even as the bodies were taken to Moreh for the final rituals.
The State Government had yesterday suspended four commando personnel, including a Sub-Inspector in connection with the October 25 incident wherein three Kuki students were gunned down at KR Lane.
Demanding concrete reasons for the suspension of the SI and three constables commando personnel affiliated to Imphal East district police put down arms from early morning till around 9am, informed sources said.
As news of the rebellion reached top police circles, the DIG Range-I Anish Dayal rush to the office of Imphal East SP to take stock of the situation.
Later, speaking to some reporters Officer-in-charge of Imphal East commando Krishnatombi said taking into consideration the sentiment of the people the four personnel were placed under suspension but the true picture on the penalty could be known only after completion of the inquiry.
He also said that the rebellious commandos have resumed duties.
The bodies of the three slain students were taken to New Lambulane where a public condolence service was held before being taken to Moreh for the last rituals.
Earlier, in the morning post mortem were conducted at RIMS mortuary with video coverage of the medical process.
Meanwhile, the KSO conveyed its heartfelt gratitude to all concerned for cooperation in successful imposition of the agitations to condemn the triple killing.
