The Association of Indian Universities, New Delhi will observe its 100 years establishment (Shatak) as National Unifest in January, 2005 at Benaras Hindu University, said AIU Under Secretary (Youth Affairs) Sampson David.
David made the announcement during an interaction with media-persons at the sideline of the ongoing 20th East Zone Inter-University Youth Festival at Manipur University campus.
He also informed of the AIU sponsoring other similar zonal level youth festivals at Bundelkhand University (Nov 26-30) for north zone, Andhra University south zone (Dec 17-27) and at North Maharashtra University for north zone (Dec 9-30).On objectives of organizing/sponsoring such festivals, he said highlighted fostering national and emotional integration, promoting human and cultural values and diverting talents of youths in a productive manner as the main focus.
Sampson David also informed of inviting MU representatives to take part in the November 6-8 Parliamentary Forum on AIDS at New Delhi and added that National Unifest is nowadays observed at Namifest where member NAM Nations send their representatives.
Taking part in the media briefing MU Vice Chancellor Prof Ng Bijoy Singh iterated that the ongoing youth festival with MU as the hosts is the second of its kind after a gap of 16 years and regretted inability to organize the festival as originally scheduled due to law and order uncertainty in Manipur.
