The 20th East Zone Inter University Youth Festival which kicked off with a grand function on October 27 with Chief Minister as the chief guest is currently underway in full swing with more 300 students from eleven universities taking part in the festival.
The festival is being hosted by the Manipur University.
Talking to The Sangai Express today, a girl student of IGKV Raipur said that Manipur was an attractive place with its beautiful scenery and loving nature of the people have added to the beauty of the place.
Admitting that all the students coming from outside the State had a different view of the State and thought it to a be a land where killing, extortion and killing was the order of the day, she said that all her perception of the State has changed by the love and care shown by the people of Manipur.
Expressing her admiration for the beautiful hair of the Manipuri girls, she said that the traditional dresses and costumes of the Manipuris is stunningly beautiful and can be compared with some of the most beautiful traditional dresses of other parts of the country both in its design and material.
Another groups of Students from the Guwahati University said that Manipur was very advanced in the field of culture and education when compared with other parts of the country.
On being asked to give their opinion on the people's demand for removal of AFSPA from the State, They said that the dreaded act should be lifted immediately not only from Manipur but also from other parts of the North East region as security forces are unleashing a reign of terror on the people by committing all sorts of atrocities.
They also opined that people of the region should rise as one and launch different forms of agitation and help remove the all draconian laws from the State.
Expressing their love for Manipur dishes in general and Iromba and Singju in particular, contingents from the Silchar University the food given to the participants at the festival have been very good and have not faced any sort of problem regarding the food.
They also expressed their sincere gratitude to the MU authorities and the MU students for making their stay in Manipur as comfortable as possible.
The students while strongly condemning the brutal killing of Thangjam Manorama by security personnel also expressed their pain and grief at the untimely death of Manorama.
