Imphal, March 30 2012:
The PDA Secretary has assured that the repairing and renovation work of Bijoy Govinda Thangapat would be completed by May this year.
However, a lot of inconsistencies have been detected in the detailed project report of the Thangapat renovation work which was taken up as a part of the Water Body Conservation and Eco-Tourism Project.
The DPR available at Planning and Development Authority (PDA) put the project cost at Rs 5.39 crores and it includes provision for construction of half-brick wall, retaining wall, drain, culvert, land development, roads as well as delimitation.
The project taken up during the time of former PDA Chairman Dr Kh Loken also includes provision for fixation of tiles on footpaths around the canal, electrification of the surrounding areas and laying of concrete slabs.
The DPR given by former MLA Dr Kh Loken about beautification Bijoy Govinda Thangapat and the DPR available at PDA were compared today during a field visit by MLA RK Imo and PDA secretary Gojen.
A lot of inconsistencies were detected while comparing the two DPRs.
Moreover, out of Rs 5.39 crores sanctioned for the repairing and renovation project, only Rs 35 lakhs meant for construction of drains, culvert and roads remain with the PDA as all the remaining amount have been released to concerned contractors.
During the inspection tour, the MLA and the officials received complaints from the local people about lack of quality in the retaining wall construction work and discrepancies in laying slabs.
After inspecting the renovation work, RK Imo instructed all concerned to complete the project without any further delay.
He also directed the accompanying PDA officials to remove the mounds of earth and boulders currently piled up inside the canal and draw in fresh water.
