Imphal, March 30 2012:
The North East Dialogue Forum has urged the President of China Hu Jintao and Prime Minister of India, Dr Manmohan Singh to stop all existing and proposed dam construction activities on Yarlung Tsangpo in Tibet and China and Brahmaputra River in India.
A memorandum submitted to the two leaders by the NEDF both the leaders to initiate micro hydel projects instead of mega dams as an alternative means for energy requirement.
Reasoning that the construction of mega dams would do more harm to the people and environment, North East Dialogue Forum urged both the leaders to stop construction of mega dams in respect of right to life.
