The Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) in coordination with other frontal organisations of Ukhrul district has decided to organise a mass rally tomorrow at Ukhrul headquarters to protest the alleged manipulation of the State Government in the present census exercise in the tribal areas of the State especially in Ukhrul district.
According to the rally schedule laid down by TNL, the rally will simultaneously begin from two spots�Hungpung junction and Kasom junction�and later converge for a public meeting at TNL ground.
Ukhrul DC orders : Ukhrul district Deputy Commissioner N Ashok Kumar has issued separate orders wherein traders have been cautioned against sale of FCS items and passenger carriers (bus) operating in between Ukhrul and Imphal have been asked to park at Awontang.
With regard to prohibition on selling FCS items the DC's order specified that relevant clause under The essential Commodities (EC) Act 1955 would be invoked in case FCS items are found produced or sold by shopkeepers in and around Ukhrul town.
Apart from annulment of license, the shop-owners contravening the directives are liable for imprisonment upto three months with fine.
The items would be immediately sealed, license cancelled, and both the shopkeeper and the person who sells it shall be charged under relevant Act which is non bailable, warned the order.
In the other order aimed at streamlining flow of vehicular traffic in Ukhrul district headquarters, the DC advised all bus plying from Ukhrul to Imphal and vice versa to remain parked at Awontang and leave 10 minutes ahead of the departure time.
Further informing that heavy vehicles/goods truck will load/unload from 3.30 pm to 8 am and taxis in Ukhrul town area shall halt and pick up passengers only at designated Taxi stands, the DC also cautioned that violation of the order will be liable with fine and penalty.
Both the orders will come into effect immediately, it added.
