GOC of 57 Mountain Division Major General DS Hooda has announced that Rs 2 lakhs would be donated under MCA project to the boxing academy being run by five times world woman boxing champion MC Mary Kom in her name at Langol.
The GOC made the announcement during a felicitation function organised by Red Shield Division in honour of Mary Kom at Leimakhong today.
Speaking at the occasion, Major General DS Hooda described Mary Kom as the role model of the youths today and said that her success is the pride of not only India but also of Manipur.

He said that Indian Army and more particularly the 57 Mountain Division has not only been trying to control law and order in the region but also encouraging sportspersons with support at every level.
So, it has been decided that a sum of Rs 2 lakhs would be provided under MCA project to the boxing academy being run by Mary Kom.
Last year too, 57 Mountain Division had donated sports equipments worth Rs 4 lakhs to the academy.
Interacting with media-persons on the sidelines of the felicitation, Mary Kom said that she would like to dedicate her fifth world championship to all the people India particular to the people of Manipur.
Expressing her gratitude to the Government of Manipur as well as 57 Mountain Division for their support, Mary Kom said that she would ask for anything from the Government of Manipur if she succeeded in winning god medal at the upcoming Beijing Asian Games.
Stating that her main ambition now is to win gold medal in Olympic Games, Mary Kom hinted that after the Olympics she may take retirement from sports.
Mary Kom said that she has no problem over contesting in new weight category at the upcoming Beijing Asian Games and she would work hard and try her level best to win gold medal.
