Imphal, September 29 2010:
MLA O Joy of MPP has stressed on the need for revamping the existing education system in the light of the present situation of Manipur and set up State Education Service in this regard.
Speaking as chief guest of a get-together function organised at Regional College, Lilong Chajing under Langthabal Assembly Constituency today, O Joy categorically stated that the society is today being recognised as knowledgebased, but the existing education system in Manipur is really disappointed.
The Opposition leader suggested that to improve the education system, new impetus should be given along with privatisation of education.
Since changes can be brought about in the society only through development in education, there is also the need for setting up a State Education Service.
Pointing out that conducive atmosphere should be created for the students to pursue their studies without any disturbance, O Joy said that students should also realise themselves as the future pillars of the society and learn their lesson with humility.
Teachers should also give proper guidance to the students.
As the increasing number of students in Government colleges could not be met, education should be privatised, O Joy suggested, adding that college authorities should also give special emphasis on offering job-oriented courses.
Questioning all concerned where the status of education in Manipur stands today, O Joy alleged that with manipulation in rationalisation of teachers and presence of a large number of employees who are not sincere, controversies have become the order of the day in Education Department.
It is not surprising that the interview for selection of teachers is conducted by the Department and the result is announced by newspaper, he added.
O Joy further said that the restriction on recruitment in Government departments should be reviewed.
Prolonged imposition of restriction on recruitment in Govt Departments with exception to Home, Medical and Education, has created a situation where the age limit of the many good students who have completed their studies may be crossed.
There is also the need for reviewing the financial management in Education Department and the Govt should ensure that the grant-in-aids are providing to the aided colleges in time, O Joy demanded.
The MLA also donated a sum of Rs 50,000 from his pocket to the authority of the college at the occasion which was attended by a large number of students of the college, teachers and members of the governing body.
