Two persons, including an elderly person and a 20 year old youth have been admitted to RIMS hospital with gunshot wounds in separate firing incidents yesterday night.
Of the injured persons the condition of the elder man is stated to be critical as he suffered bullet wounds at the chest and stomach following a stand-off with unidentified gunmen at around 11.45 pm at Sagolband Ingudam Leirak.
according to reports culled from the incident site, two youths came in search of one Khumbongmayum Ashwinikumar (22) of Sagolband Ingudam Leirak.
On being told that Ashwinikumar was not at home they barged into the youth�s room and began searching.
After some time the armed youths came out and showed some spasmo proxyvon tablets allegedly found from Ahwinikumar�s room.
Moments later the youths chanced upon Ashwinikumar nearby where he had gone to attend a marriage ceremony and accosted him at gunpoint.
As the tussle between the armed youths and Ashwinikumar ensued two uncles of the youth named as Shantikumar and Chandrakumar came out to investigate.
The armed youths also thrashed the two and forced them to lie on the ground.
On hearing the commotion another uncle of Ashwinikumar raised an alarm resulting in other family members and some local residents closing in towards the spot.
Fearing possible escalation of trouble, the armed youth fired around five rounds during which Chandrakumar received the bullet wounds.
The two youths then left on foot.
When contacted Ashwinikumar confessed to have used intoxicating tablets in the past but has since abandoned the habit.
About half an hour after admission of Chandrakumar at RIMS Hospital another bullet injured youth identified as Ningthoujam Herojit s/o Joy from Tera Sapam Leirak was rushed in to the same hospital.
Herojit was shot at at the chest.
Police claimed that Herojit is a member of an underground organisation.
Meanwhile, identity of the corpses retrieved from different places yesterday have been established.
While the first body recovered from Tera Sadokpam Leikai has been identified as one Sagolsem Surjit alias Bung (22) s/o Manihar of Kyamgei Maning Leikai while the second corpse found dead at DMC Campus has established as Laishram Deven of Ngaikhong Siphai.
Deven�s death is reported to be drug overdose case.
On the other hand, press source disclosed that Surjit was a former activist of the banned KCP and was out of jail only 2 months back.
Both the bodies have been claimed by respective family members after post mortem at RIMS morgue today.
