Acting on a complaint petition filed in connection with the burning down of six residential houses at Jalenbung village in Ukhrul district, Manipur Human Rights Commission has today asked the DGP to submit a report on the matter.
Since the petition has been submitted to the Chief Minister, the rights panel also asked the State Chief Secretary to furnish his comment by April 14.MHRC headed by its chairperson Justice (retired) WA Shishak fixed April 14 for further proceedings of the case.
Today's proceedings followed a complaint petition filed by T Lunkim, the chairman of Kuki Movement for Human Rights.
Lunkim contended that unidentified persons numbering around 18 who came from Thawai Tangkhul village descended upon Jalenbung village and set ablaze six houses on Feb 25.All the six houses were reduced to ashes and the villagers who rushed out to douse the fire were prevented by the arsonists firing a number of rounds towards them, according to the complaint petition.
Lunkim prayed before the Commission for causing arrest of the culprits besides seeking compensation for the destroyed houses.
