As observed throughout the world Consumers� Club, manipur and Eastern Students Club, Nongmeibung jointly organised a programme at the Club premise in connection with the �World Consumers� Day� today.
Extensive deliberation by experts on rights of the consumers, weightage of purchased consumable items and liability of punitive action against consumers goods pilferers and levying excess price than those prescribed were the highlight of the observation held with Imphal Municipal Council councillor (W/N-21) RK Jibanmala Devi and retired session Judge C Upendra as the chief guest and president relatively.
Speakers at the observance also expressed strong resentment against the State Government for non-revival of defunct Consumer Court describing the indifferent attitude of the State authorities as denial of rights of the consumers.
The Indian Institute of Public Administration, Imphal branch also observed the "World Consumers Rights Day" at MU�s Department of Commerce today with a seminar on �Consumer Protection in Manipur�.
About ten papers were presented and discussed during the seminar held with MU Vice Chancellor Prof N Bijoy and former Director of Jawaharlal Nehru university PG Centre Imphal Prof H Ranbir as the chief guest and president respectively.
