Imphal, April 09 2023:
The integrity of India, built on the edifice of 'unity in diversity' by many freedom fighters of the country, is being threatened by BJP, alleged rival Congress.
As in many other States of the country, the 53rd foundation day of the National Students Union of India (NSUI) was observed at Imphal too under the aegis of NSUI Manipur State unit.
The NSUI foundation day function was opened with MPCC president K Meghachandra unfurling the Congress party's flag here at Congress Bhavan.
Speaking on the occasion, K Meghachandra said that the NSUI was set up by late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and it has been sharing momentous responsibilities for the student community as well as the entire Nation.
Today's students will become defenders or protectors of the Nation one day.
As such, students need to interact with intellectuals frequently and study different issues of the Nation, he said.
Many former leaders of NSUI are now taking key roles in governing different States of India.
The incumbent Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh was once a leader of NSUI.
NSUI is a convenient platform for many students to groom their political career, the MPCC president said.
He said that the BJP Government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been targeting the student community.
The BJP Government has removed chapters on the Mughal empire from the NCERT text book.
Two other very important chapters on 'Democracy' and 'Diversity' have also been scrapped from the NCERT syllabus.
Under the BJP Government, democracy has lost its meaning in the multi-lingual and multi-religious country of India, Meghachandra said.
He asserted that BJP has been scheming in the name of religion to destroy the unity of India.
Saying that BJP has been posing serious challenges to the country's unity and the very foundations of democracy, the MPCC president appealed to all the people to fight all the divisive forces collectively.
NSUI Manipur State unit president Md Kabir Ahmad said that the NSUI has been working relentlessly for the welfare of the student community and in order to consolidate the country's integrity.
Whereas admission fee of colleges affiliated to Manipur University has been rising dramatically, students' scholarship given under MOBC has not been disbursed till date, Kabir Ahmad said.
Meanwhile, the Central Government has been multiplying the woes of poor students by levying GST on stationery items, he said.
Deputy CLP leader K Ranjit, MLA Th Lokeshwor, MLA Okram Surjakumar, MPCC working president Md Fajur Rahim and many other Congress leaders and NSUI functionaries were also present at the function.
