Sword of Major Chongtha Mia found

The sword used by Manipuri martyr Major Chongtha Mia, who led 400 Manipuri soldiers in the Battle of Khongjom of the Anglo-Manipuri War of 1891 against the mighty British imperialist forces, has been found and recovered by United Chongthas.
In a statement, United Chongthas informed that the sword was found in the custody of Chongtham (Ningol) Memcha of Tera Loukrakpam Leikai.
She contacted United Chongthas about the sword and conveyed her willingness to hand over the same to the Trust.
Subsequently, a team of United Chongthas went to her house on Saturday morning and took custody of the historic sword from her.
The statement further informed that the sword is around 42-inch long including the grip.
The scabbard is made of leader and has a hook for attaching to belt.
It also informed that they had collected the shield used by the martyr from Chongtham Jugeshwar of Tera Amudon in 2015 .
