Bharatiya Janata Party Manipur Pradesh president Thounaojam Chaoba Singh has asserted that the Congress party suffering heavy defeat in the Assembly elections of four States reflects the people's mandate against insincere governance and indulgence in corruption by the Congress Governments in these States.
Speaking at a BJP political conference today, Chaoba said electors' verdict in these States not only testify that the Congress party has lost the confidence and goodwill of the people but is also a confirmation that the NDA will replace the Congress-led UPA at the Centre after the Parliamentary elections scheduled next year.
Due to indulgence in corrupt practices some Chief ministers are already feeling insecure as they are apprehensive of serving jail terms when BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi heads the NDA coalition in the Centre, wryly remarked the State BJP chief who also contended that injudicious utilisation of development funds has resulted in the backtracking of Manipur's economic condition.
In addition to extinction of most industrial units earlier existing in the State, the fact that only 20 percent of the plan amount could be utilised at the fag end of the current financial year is a clear testimony about the State Government's lack of financial transparency and administrative incompetency, he observed at the political conference organised by BJP Keishamthong Mandal at Keishamthong Elangbam Leikai community hall.
Further stating that the PDS mechanism, health and education sectors have failed miserably and Manipur has become a repugnant place for human habitation, the former Union Minister said with change in governance in the centre imminent ensuring paradigm shift of power in the State lies with the people.
Holding the Chief Minister O Ibobi and the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for Manipur staring at loss of huge geographical area consequent to the Indo-Myanmar border fencing project, Chaoba demanded that both tender apologies and do the needful for protecting Manipur's territory.
Strongly advocating implementation of Inner Line Permit System and enactment of land Use policy, he explained that the latter legislation would be helpful in prohibiting sale of land to non-locals as well as prevent sale of agricultural land to wealthy persons, whose business venture has nothing to do with agriculture.
A BJP ticket aspirant for the ensuing Lok Sabha election, Dr RK Ranjan in his address contended that mis-governance by the Congress Government and false claim about implementation of development projects are some of the factors for the people living under the concept that without Central Government assistance it would be futile for improvement of Manipur's economic condition.
Citing mismanagement for failure of development projects, he also charged the present Government of Manipur for threat to its territorial boundary.
Speaking at the occasion, another party ticket aspirant Ch Joyraj accusing the Congress regime for MSRTC ceasing operation also noted that with the exception of some pockets in the capital city people have been enduring severe hardships due to woeful road connectivity.
Alleging that people are griped with fear and uncertainty due to 'State terrorism', he also sought the people's help in enabling BJP bring about positive change in Manipur.
