Imphal, December 08 2013 :
Reacting to the recent recognition of Manipuri Sankirtana as a cultural heritage by United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), Kangla Khunthokyai Apul Luplel (KAKHAL) has pressed for recognition of Umang Lai Haraoba as a cultural heritage instead of the Sankirtana.
According to a statement of KAKHAL issued by its Secretary General Ingba Mangang, the recognition of Sankirtana by UNESCO has greatly affected the existence of indigenous Meitei/Meetei people in the State.
The recognition is akin to opening the "Pandora Box" along with the resurrection of Shantidas Gosai in the present era to ruin rich culture of indigenous Manipuri people.
KAKHAL would launch intense agitation along with other indigenous organizations of the State if Umang Lai Haraoba is not recognized as a cultural heritage by UNESCO at the earliest, it said.
