Imphal, November 02 2021:
Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF) has stated that the Keirak Buffalo Farm set up in Kakching district remains only for namesake.
In a release, MSF general secretary Hijam Roshan informed that a team led by its environment and ecology affairs secretary inspected Keirak Buffalo farm for the second time on Tuesday.
The farm began operation with 100 buffaloes with funding from the North Eastern Council in 1984 and the government took over the farm in 2007, he continued, while adding that the state's veterinary and animal husbandry department is looking after the farm since 2007 with 50 buffaloes.
Pointing out that cattle farming is being encouraged so as to increase productivity and economy, Roshan contended that the number of cattle in the farm is decreasing every year instead.
He appealed to the government for looking into lack of manpower, tools and other inadequacies to maintain the buffalo farm properly.
