Surrendered UG cadres express discontent

Imphal, November 02 2021: Surrendered cadres of different armed groups have expressed discontentment with the Government over non-payment of financial benefits meant for surrendered cadres.

The surrendered cadres, who did not want to be named for security reasons, said this at a press conference held at Manipur Press Club today and added that they had surrendered to the Government in 2018 .

After review by the Surrenderee Screening Committee on May 7, 2018, police verification was also completed following which they had been staying at rehabilitation centre till May 6, 2021, after which they have returned home, he added.

He said that as per Government regulations, a one time package of Rs 4 lakh and a monthly stipend of Rs 6000 per month for three years are to be given to any surrendered cadre, but all these have not been paid by the Government.

As they have been released from rehabilitation centres, they are now facing problems including unable to find work to earn a living which has put a lot of mental pressure on them, he added.

Informing that cadres of an insurgent group who had surrendered as a group have been provided all the benefits, he alleged the Government of sidelining them as they had surrendered individually.

Adding that the staff at Manipur Secretariat were not helpful when they had approached them, he added that they had also submitted a written appeal to Chief Minister N Biren Singh on October 6 but there has been no satisfactory response even after a month.
