'Liangmai folk song competition 2021' concludes

The 2nd Liangmai folk song competition 2021 conducted to raise awareness on folk songs and to preserve an important treasure of the Liangmai tribe successfully concluded on October 30 .
In a release, Liangmai Foundation stated the virtual event was conducted by an Organising Committee under Liangmai Foundation with 59 participants from Nagaland and Manipur.
It also stated that the songs were published on Youtube and would also be transcribed, translated, annotated, and submitted at any digital archive for a long lasting preservation.
As part of the event, an online meeting cum special talk on 'Oral tradition' was also conducted.
At the event, Professor Anvita Abbi, a renown linguist and a champion in documentation and description of endangered languages and minority languages, spoke on 'Save your oral tradition and stay away from cultural amnesia' .
Professor Abbi also encouraged the audience to be the creator, consumer and preserver of culture while pointing out that oral literature is a repository of indigenous knowledge which empowers the community to understand its past, engage meaningfully with the present and insightfully shape the future.
The Organising Committee also expressed gratitude to Awangbow Newmai, Minister Forest, Environment and Climate Change, Government of Manipur; and Namri Nchang, MLA & Advisor, Water Resources, Government of Nagaland for their support and generous financial assistance.
The winners of the competition in order of merit are:
Male category - Hutonbou Mataina, Kuilong; Pingdin, Nzau; and Kaidauping, Jalukie B .
Female category - Disurailiu, Kuilong; Wijotniliu, Rienta; and Wikhonlungliu, Chiang.
