Imphal, July 18 2021:
As the 10-day total curfew began from Sunday, enforcement of the curfew remains a matter of concern in different localities.
On Sunday, traffic volume was reduced by around 99 per cent following the appeal made by chief minister N Biren.
State security forces could be seen enforcing curfew in different parts of the state, mainly in highways and along major roads.
Shops and business points along the highways remained closed but grocery stores in several localities and streets could be seen open as usual and people were seen gathering without following SOPs.
In a brief survey by this daily, gathering for leisure activities like playing cards or ludo and gossiping could be seen in different localities.
Security forces are not in a position to reach the streets.
Considering the situation, the government will need active support from local clubs and organisations for enforcing the curfew and Covid relevant SOPs.
On the other hand, local clubs and Covid task forces in some localities were seen enforcing curfew and SOPs by using PA system.
