Six held with drugs worth over Rs 55 lakh

Imphal, July 18 2021:
Imphal East district police arrested six drug peddlers and recovered heroin worth Rs 55 lakh on Saturday.
The arrested drug peddlers have been identified as Md Washim Akram (21) son of Md Sirajuddin of Mayang Imphal but presently a resident of Hatta Golapati, Lemba Yumkhaibam (26) son of Md Khomei of New Checkon, Ningthoukhongjam Nilachandra (27) son of Phulindro of Checkon Mandop Leirak, Md Rizwan Khan (26) son of Ibrahim Khanleipham of Lilong Khunou, Thongkhojam Baite (33) of Maojang Khul, Tengnoupal and Hemkhomang Baite (27) of Moreh ward no 1.Parading the six before media persons at his conference hall on Sunday, Imphal East SP N Herojit informed that a team of district police led by narcotics cell OC inspector Kh Devkumar and volunteers of Young Athletic Development Association (YADA) Kshergao carried out frisking and checking at Soibam Leikai near Citizens' Club on Sunday.
Around 5.50 pm, the team stopped and frisked Washim and Lemba and recovered from their possession 20 soap caps containing heroin.
Based on disclosure of the two, the police team rounded up Nilachandra and Rizwan from Singjamei Bazar area around 6.20 pm.
The latter duo further revealed involvement of the two other persons in peddling drugs.
Accordingly, Thongkhonjam Baite and Hemkhomang Baite were arrested from near Vishal Mart, Kakwa Bazar around 7 pm.
The SP further said that the heroin seized from the six peddlers weighs around 276 gram and would cost Rs 55,20,000 in international market.
The six arrested drug peddlers along with the seized drugs have been handed over to Porompat police station for necessary action.
