Senapati, July 18 2021:
Following the announcement of ten days (July 18 to 27) total curfew in the entire State, Senapati district headquarter witnessed panic buying on July 17 the last day before curfew.
The shops in Senapati town which open from 6 AM to 2 PM saw an unusual crowd of people thronging for the last minute shopping especially in groceries and provision stores.
One of the shopkeepers in the main market remarked that during the pandemic and following announcement of curfews or lockdowns, the public usually goes on a shopping spree especially grocery items to stock up provision for the uncertain times ahead.
Business during one day in such times equals business in a week during normal days, he added.
A blatant disregard for SOP was observed amongst the public although masking was properly observed amongst the people.
SOP violation was a matter of concern for the district administration.
There were few cases of selling essential commodities higher than normal prices in some pockets though majority shops followed the order of the town committee controlling the prices.
