CSOs decry political blame game over Covid pandemic

Decrying the political blame game being played between the ruling and the opposition parties in the state, leaders of different civil society organisations have come out strongly against such practices during a press meet at Thangal General Ecological Park, Mayangkhang.
Devi Thapa, advisor/ spokesperson of Manipuri Gorkha Youth Association (MGYA), stated that the people of the state have been initiating ways to defeat the pandemic but the ruling and the opposition parties are indulging in political one-upmanship.
The Gorkha leader asked all to join hands in the fight against the pandemic and appealed to all not to spread misinformation about vaccination, pointing out that vaccination is the only way to defeat the virus and save lives.
Lalboi Lhouvum, general secretary, Thadou Students' Association, Sadar Hills TSA-SH, urged all to support the steps taken up by the government in the fight against the infectious disease.
While lauding the state government for its assurance of providing essential commodities to the people during the 10-day curfew, the student leader asked all concerned not to indulge in blame game but concentrate on the people's suffering at this crucial time.
Gogou Chongloi, deputy secretary general TSA-HQ on behalf of different tribal students' bodies and Manipur Gorkha Youth Association, said that people of the hills do not want any kind of political blame game when the common people of the state are suffering due to the pandemic.
The student leader continued that he came across a video on the social media recently where there's a comment which maintained that the 10-day curfew is being imposed against a community.
He then pointed out that it also affects Hindus' Kang festival and different occasions of Christians are also disturbed due to the pandemic and asked all not to consider imposition of such lockdown/curfew as communal decision.
Meiduipa, Thangal, president Thangal Students Union (TAJ), stated that the combination of tribal bodies with MGYA acknowledge the suffering of the common people of the state due to the pandemic.
He said that everyone knows how the state chief minister is doing his best to contain the pandemic and asked all the opposition parties not to play blame game in this regard while the people of the state are really suffering.
The student leader asked all concerned not to seek own political gain but to join hands and work for the welfare of the people by realising their sentiment, otherwise citizens could impose restrictions in future.
The meeting was attended by delegates from Liangmai Naga Council, Thangal Students' Union (TAJ), Thadou Students' Association-Sadar Hills (TSA-SH), Thadou Students Association-GHQ (TSA-GHQ) and Maram Students' Union (MKS) .
