Imphal, July 18 2021:
Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Thokchom Satyabrata has earnestly appealed to the people to support the '10-day total curfew' starting today to break the transmission chain of Covid which has seen a sharp surge in recent days.
The Minister who is currently undergoing Covid treatment at Shija Hospital, in a voice note released to media, said the Government has been putting in all efforts to control the second wave of the pandemic by taking up all necessary measures.
He also opined that the State Govt handled the first wave effectively but the situation is a bit different now and recklessness among the people may be one of the reasons leading to the grim situation now.
As a convenor of the Joint Committee on COVID-19, he said the total curfew is the need of the hour and fully endorsed the decision of the Government, and appealed to all to extend full cooperation and help break the chain.
Stating that the pandemic time calls for collective service from the people, the Minister added that this is not the time for petty politics to gain mileage.
