NYK Thoubal carries out Waste Collection

Imphal, October 26 2021: NYK Thoubal conducted Plastic Waste collection programme at Wangoo Laipham as part of the ongoing Clean India Programme beingxarried out under the Department of Youth Affairs of Ministry or Youth Affairs and Sports from October 1 till 31 in Celebration of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.

A press release issued by NYK Thoubal youth officer Michael Thangminlien Mate informed that objective of the Clean India initiative is to organise activities to clean waste, mainly single-use plastic throughout the country.

In Thoubal district, the campaign was launched on October 1 at Thoubal Municipal Council followed by cleanliness drives by government departments, NGOs, SHGs, NSS, CSOs, municipal council workers, PRIs, SHGs, meira paibi, Lions Club, Red Cross, youth clubs, district police, etc, led by NYK volunteers.

Till October 25, the areas and institutions covered under the cleanliness drive include Children Homes, Salungpham ward number 7, Thoubal Bazar, police stations, TMC, Waikhom Mani Girls College Thoubal district Hospital, Transport office, schools under ZEO Thoubal, Khangabok Part III GP, Leisangthem, Wangkhem, Kshetri Leikai and Wangoo, Lamding Elangbam Leikai, Kgirak, Sapam Laibung Leikai, HWC Kangjeibung Wabagai, Saram, Wangkhem Bazar, Keibung, Thoudam, Kakching Khunyai Leikai, Kakching Wairi, Moijing Wangmataba, Litan Makhong Awang Leikai, Khekman, Charangpat, Pallel River, Chingtam, Wangoo Tera, etc.

The NYK also plans' to continue the drive mainly focused on collection of single-use plastics at Khongjom War Memorial on October 30, the release said while informing that a review meeting of Clean India Activities of District Monitoring Committee will be held on October 27 at Thoubal DC conference hall followed by weight measurement of the plastic waste Collected under the programme on November 1 and announcement of the best performing SHG under TMC.
