50 acres of poppy plantation destroyed

Imphal, October 25 2021:
A police team led by DIG Range-1 Themthing Ngashangva destroyed around 50 acres of poppy plantation found at K Hengjang hill range under Maphou Dam police station on Monday.
According to apolice report, a combined team led by DIG Themthing Ngashangva and comprising SP NAB K Meghacnandra Singh and NAB team, IRB, Forest Department, Horticulture Department, SDC Kangpokpi and Assam Rifles cut down the poppy plants.
The team on reaching the hill range found that poppy plants were being grown in an area of about 1000 acres, more than half of which had just been sown or were in seedling stage.
As they were too small to be cut down, they were rooted out.
There was also evidence of widespread use of chemical fertilisers with bags of diammonium phosphate, nitrogen phosphate fertilisers recovered from the site.
The bags were destroyed after collecting samples.
A case has been registered at Maphou Dam police station.
Operation for destruction of poppy .plants will continue by the authorities, the report said.
